Super Bowl Sunday

Posted by tmcoyle@gundluth.org on February 5, 2012 at 8:20 PM

Well, not sure that I will be watching the super bowl today, too many other things to do.

Went to Winona and cheered Lori on in her barrel racing, she placed 2nd in the 3D today, 3rd in the 3D yesterday.  We even got to snuggle with Tristan while we were waiting for her to run.  He is soooo adorable and snuggly.

Then onto Rogans to buy ourselves some running shoes.  We are getting committed to be healthier in 2012.  I have been doing the 30 Day Shred with Jillian Michels and Randy is starting to run on the treadmill.

When we got home I went out to the barn and did chores, feeding all the training horses their grain, wrapping Dreamer's leg, de-worming everyone, feeding hay, topping off all the water tanks and sweeping down the isle . . .man those 2 hours went by fast.

Dreamer banged her knee a little over a month ago and I have had to wrap it every day to keep the swelling down.  As soon as I would unwrap it the swelling would come back.  She had a cut on the lower ankle in November that was almost healed, but now with the swelling that broke open and it has been slow to heal.  I have been keeping a non-stick dressing on it with triple antibiotic ointment.  The dogs love licking the quilted leg wrap that covered that area, yuck.  This week I had Randy unwrap it when he put her outside and put Underwood/backing powder on it.  I also sprayed it with Vetricyn a couple times and it seems to be healing better now that there isn't so much swelling.  Now the swelling had localized below the knee.  She still has an orange size lump right on the front of her knee, that might take a while to get back to normal.  Great to see progress though after a month of wrapping and 2 cycles of Penicillin.  The vet told us her tendon sheath going over the knee was inflammed.  She hasn't been lame at all on it.  We have her under lights to get her to cycle so she will be our first mare to be bred.  This makes it a lot easier to do dressing changes too.

Now in from chores and waiting for the T-bone steaks to get done for supper.

Have a great week everyone!!!
